When incarcerated individuals commit to self-reform, it is a personal win for them, a win for the prison system, and a win for society as a whole. Whether through spiritual growth or otherwise, basic logic dictates that we should collectively reinforce efforts towards self-reform, or at the very least, ensure an unencumbered path, free of undue burdens and violations of their rights and dignity. When one wins, all win. A2F works to relieve these burdens for the individual and common good.

The A2F PP upholds the constitutional right of incarcerated individuals to practice their faith without undue obstruction. Through advocacy, education, and support, we champion the pursuit of dignity, purpose, and hope within the Illinois prison system and beyond.

A2F Prison Project systematically tracks prison-related civil rights cases, documents grievance exhaustion, preserves institutional records, and assesses potential legal and advocacy pathways - particularly involving religious rights, retaliation, and conditions of confinement. 

Core Goals

  • Centralize all prison cases and facilities in one tracking system 

  • Confirm grievance exhaustion or document barriers to exhaustion 

  • Identify gaps in documentation and pursue FOIA if possible and where necessary 

  • Maintain accurate records of client contact and communication history 

  • Conduct structured legal and factual analysis for selected cases 

  • Build a Chaplain and Imam network  

  • Legislative/outreach efforts
